HILLIANS BEAT 2nd PLACED MOLE VALLEY

Burgess Hill Town Ladies 3 [Sadie Ashby (Pen) , Jess Saunders, Jess Gray ] Mole Valley 1

Returning to League action after their Cup win against Premier Div opponents the Hillians knew they had to be on top form to beat 2nd placed Mole Valley.

Right from the start it was clear that the Hillians were determined to continue their unbeaten run with Maria Bardea, Jess Saunders and Sadie Ashby having scoring opportunities and the Hillians being generally well in control of the game . Hillians keeper Casey Dunford , had little to do but did well on one occasion, coming out quickly to claim the ball to deny a Mole Valley forward

With less than 5 minutes of the half remaining left midfielder Millie Morley was fouled in the penalty area and Captain Ashby made no mistake from the penalty spot to put her team ahead at half time .

The 2nd half commenced with Mole Valley determined to get back into the game but, after Jess Gray went close from a free kick, within 15 minutes the Hillians went further ahead , the speedy Saunders starting a run in her own half before burying the ball in the net, a 50 yd run !! .

Mole Valley responded well, Dunford having to be at her best in the Hillians goal to push a low shot past her post for a corner , and shortly afterwards Mole Valley hit the cross bar . Within 2 minutes however the Hillians were 3-0 up as Gray released one of her traidmark speculative shots from outside the area with the Mole Valley keeper way off her goal line

The Hillians made some positional changes in the last 15 minutes and lost some of their rhythm and conceeded a goal with just minutes remaining but overall this was arguably the best display of the team this season . This win lifted the Hillians 2 places to 4th place , just 8 points below 2nd placed Mole Valley with 4 games in hand as they continue their battle for promotion , extending their unbeaten run to 8 games, and having won 7 of them .

It was good to see Lotti Pollendine back in action for the first time since early October, Mole Valley made forward Maria Bardea Hillians "Player of the match" while Manager Mark Bishop made his Capt Sadie Ashby his "Player of the match" in a game where once again every player gave their all .
