Milford & Witley 2 Burgess Hill Town Ladies 4 [Maria Bardea Lotti Pollendine, Caitlin Garden ]
Returning to League action after their energy sapping Cup Final game 3 days earlier the Hillians had to employ different tactics for a dificult task on a poor sloping surface with very strong wind.
Nevertheless they managed by their determination and "never say die" attitude to extend their unbeaten league run to 6 games and close the gap to 2nd place.
With a little over 10 minutes gone a harse decision gave Milford a free kick just outside the area from which they scored , giving Hillians keeper Kalila Golding-Huckle no chance.
With a typical Hillians response within 5 minutes Maria Bardea received a cross from fellow Romanian Dee Vilciu and calmly found the net . It then took only 3 minutes before Vilciu repeated the move ,
enabling Lotti Pollendine
to put the Hillians ahead .
Both sides had chances to score further in what was a scrappy half with the Hillians unable to produce the performance they so often display
The 2nd half commenced with Milford , now kicking downhill with the assisting wind, determined to get back into the game and requiring keeper Golding-Huckle to display her goalkeeping talents
Although Bardea and Jess Gray had scoring chances Milford managed to level the score when a
speculative high lob bounced unexpectedly high out of Golding-Huckle's reach and enabled the ball to be steered into the net to make the score level at 2-2
This brought on the normal positive reaction from the Hillians and within a couple of minutes they had regained the lead ,
a cross by Pollendine enabling Caitlin Garden to head the ball past the keeper to make the score 2-3 .
With the Hillians now sensing victory Bardea scored her 2nd, with Garden this time being the provider.
Milford tried to get back into the game , forcing Hillians keeper Golding-Huckle to make a couple of diving saves , and a defender clearing off the line to prevent a "certain" goal.
The back four of Lawrence, Gittins, Harvey and Bucur worked hard to deny Milford in front of keeper Golding-Huckle who Milford voted as Hillians "Player of the match" .
With Hillians regular keeper unavailable they are fortunate to have 2 talented keepers ,
Manager Mark Bishop named Maria Bardea as his "Player of the match" and they now prepare for their League Cup semifinal next Sunday .
