Burgess Hill Town Ladies 1 [Jade Chapman ] Hassocks 2
This was always going to be a tough game , with Hassocks having an 100% record in their last 18 games and the Hillians with a record of 8 wins and one draw in their last 9 games
After 10 minutes the Hillians went ahead , Diana Vilciu playing a clever ball out to Jess Saunders who dinked a wonderful ball into the box for Jade Chapman to head home and break the deadlock!
The Hillians had chances to score through Chapman and Vilciu but after half an hour Hassocks drew level
Rushworth was allowed to turn in the box and smash the ball into the bottom corner past Casey Dunford, giving her no hope in between the sticks!
Hassocks upped their game whilst Saunders saw her shot saved and the teams went into the break level after a very competitive 45 minutes.
Ten minutes into the 2nd half Saunders stole the ball off Hassocks Capt Newman, burst ahead and got a shot away but dragged it narrowly wide!
With 30 mins remaining the Hillians were forced to make a substitution after Hayley Nash received an injury and was stretchered off, being replaced by Gabby Bucur
The Hillians took time to adjust to the necessary changes and 10 minutes later Hassocks's Chappell swung in a corner which fell nicely to King who was ready at the front post to head home
This goal lifted Hassocks spirits but determined defending plus excellent work by Hillians keeper Dunford prevented Hassocks going further ahead
With a goal needed the Hillians replaced defender Gittins with forward Chapman but to no avail and despite working hard till the final whistle the Hillians suffered their first defeat since October .
This was an excellent display of Womens Football at its best and all the Hillians players should go home proud of their performance and with the words of praise from Managers Bishop and Carreira to cheer them up
